Karting is a relatively safe sport; however, like any sport there are risks involved. A much better safety record than football, and surprisingly even more so than baseball, but on April 11, 2008 my good friend and fellow racer, KJ, was involved in a terrible crash and lost his life. The circumstances involved in this incident were very unfortunate. Proper safety barriers should be in place at all tracks, and KJ's parent's have taken steps to makes sure this type of incident never happens again.
